Excessive Foaming

Foaming is more likely to occur in spas and hot than than in swimming pools. Soft water (low calcium hardness), algicides, and high total dissolved solids caused by lotions creams, shampoos, and the like can all cause excessive foaming. It's definitely a good idea to balance your water before purchasing a defoamer. Pranksters have also been known to add detergents to spas, hot tubs, and swimming pools.
