The Hair and Lint Strainer

The pool pump must be protected by a strainer pot that collects hair, lint, bobby pins, leaves, and other foreign bodies. This strainer, located near the pool pump, protects your pool pump from damage and should be checked daily; otherwise, you may end up with a clogged strainer that impairs the flow of water through the filters and causes cloudy water. Checking the strainer pot and skimmer baskets is the best way to guarantee proper filtering flow rates. The lid on the strainer must always be tightly secured or air will be drawn into the pump and pushed back into the pool. This is not good, as air in the system can damage the pump or turn the pool cloudy.
