| Weekly Chores
The pool should be vacuumed once a week if you want to keep the pool bottom clean. You may have to do this more often if you have a lot of plants surrounding your pool. Vacuuming should also be done immediately following inclement weather. There's nothing worse than a "bathtub ring" on the sides of a beautiful swimming pool. At least once a week, this scum line should be wiped off with an approved cleaner, one that is compatible with your vinyl, fiberglass, or tile finish. Many household cleaners are suitable, but check with your pool supply store first. Cleaning or backwashing the filter should be done weekly, or as necessary if the pool is busy, to ensure good water clarity and protect the pool equipment. Shocking, or superchlorination, should also be done weekly to prevent algae growth and chloramine production. Shocking regularly will also burn up a lot of organic debris, thereby assisting your filter in keeping the water clean. Shocking is good preventive maintenance for pool water and should not be overlooked. The pool deck should be hosed down and cleaned once a week, too. You might want to use an algicide or higher chlorine levels if you have algae beginning to take hold. Other accessories, such as diving boards and slides, should also be cleaned on a weekly basis. |
