SYMPTOM: PUMP IS HARD TO PRIME OR LOSES PRIME
Cause: Procedure:
No water in Pump. Fill pump with water and reprime.
Low water level in pool. Raise water level above skimmer mouth.
Closed valve. Open all valves in the circulation system.
Plugged line. Check strainer basket, skimmer basket, and pump; clean if necessary.
Strainer pot cover not selected. Examine strainer pot lid and O-ring or gasket.
Clean if necessary.
Air leak in influent line. Tighten all pipes and fittings in line
Pressure check line to locate leak; make necessary repairs.
Vertical suction lift more than
25 feet from drain to pump.
Move pump vertically to within less than 15 feet of the water source.
Seal flange positioned incorrectly. Correct alignment of seal flange.
Worn pump seal. Check pump seal and replace if necessary.
Impeller out of alignment. Realign impeller using an impeller gauge.
Impeller plugged or jammed Examine impeller and remove any obstructions.
SYMPTOM: LEAKING PUMP
Cause: Procedure:
Defective seal. Replace seal.
Defective seal (O-ring). Replace O-ring.
Defective strainer lid (O-ring/gasket). Replace O-ring or gasket.
SYMPTOM: LOW WATER FLOW
Cause: Procedure:
Refuse caught in strainer basket or
skimmer basket.
Empty and clean baskets.
Dirty Filter Check filter pressure gauge and backwash or clean filter if indicated
Reverse rotation of impeller Check rotation direction.
Switch any two power leads in three-phase motor.
Impeller or diffuser worn. Replace impeller or diffuser.
Pump too small. Consult pump sizing chart and replace small pump with a pump
appropriate to the conditions of the pool, spa and circulation system.
Vertical suction lift more than 15
feet from drain to pump.
Move pump vertically closer to water source.
SYMPTOM: NOISY PUMP/CAVITATION
Cause: Procedure:
Undersized influent piping. Compare pump to pipe size.
Replace line with appropriate sized pipe.
Obstruction in influent or effluent lines. Check the lines and remove any obstructions.
SYMPTOM: NOISY PUMP WITH AIR BUBBLES IN RETURN INLET
Cause: Procedure:
Air leak in influent line. Find leak and repair.
SYMPTOM: PUMP RUNNING SLOWLY
Cause: Procedure:
Insufficient electric voltage. Check voltage with voltmeter at the motor terminals
and at the meter while the pump is running.
Consult electric company and check wiring instructions.
Loose electric connections. Disconnect power and check for loose electric connections.
SYMPTOM: MOTOR HUMS BUT DOES NOT START
Cause: Procedure:
Plugged pump impeller Clear debris from in and around impeller.
Spin impeller and motor shaft by hand to ensure free movement
